UPDATE a date column: literal does not match format string
When I try to update a date column with this:

    UPDATE
        event_request
    SET
        REQ_EVENT_DATE = TO_CHAR(REQ_EVENT_DATE - INTERVAL '1' HOUR, 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi')
    WHERE
        eventID=123

Oracle returns this error:

    ERROR at line 4:
    ORA-01861: literal does not match format string

where line 4 is REQ_EVENT_DATE = TO_CHAR(REQ_EVENT_DATE - INTERVAL '1' HOUR, 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi').

The REQ_EVENT_DATE field was originally populated with this stripped down query:

$date = '2007-12-25 08:35';
INSERT INTO (REQ_EVENT_DATE) VALUES (to_date('$date', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi'));

So - what is wrong with the UPDATE query?

PL/SQL Java source - concurrent execution
Hi, All,

I have a problem using Java sources in PL/SQL

I have a class that has several static methods and static array.
The idea of this class is to get CLOB (holds picture in it), store it in array.
Then returns width and legth to the user. When the object is no used anymore, program delete it.
The problem is when 2 PL/SQL procedures are calling it in parallel.
Sometimes it mixes params of the different pictures. But not ALWAYS...

Thanks in advance.

How to get autoextend on|off information?
Hi All,

Is there any dba_view, or any package in order to know what is the value of AUTOEXTENT (ON or OFF) for a datafile? It is 7.3.4.0 Oracle version, so nothing like DBMS_METADATA.GET_DDL ('tablespce', 'ts_name').

Any help will be appreciated.

Limiting rows

I need to pull the 3 newest articles in a news table. Here's a list of rows including dates:

PHP Code:
 SQLSELECT newsiddateaddedROWNUM from news ORDER BY dateadded DESC;

NEWSID DATEADDED     ROWNUM
---------- --------- ----------

61 02-MAY-07         17
        47 01
-MAY-07          9
        46 01
-MAY-07          8
        45 01
-MAY-07          7
        44 01
-MAY-07          6
        43 01
-MAY-07          5
        42 01
-MAY-07         12
        41 01
-MAY-07         11
        25 27
-APR-07          1
        24 26
-APR-07         16
        23 26
-APR-07         15
        22 26
-APR-07         14
        21 26
-APR-07         13
         5 25
-APR-07         10
         4 25
-APR-07          4
         3 25
-APR-07          3
         2 25
-APR-07          2

17 rows selected

I'm using a method to LIMIT rows, but the resulting rows are not what I need.

PHP Code:
 SQLSELECT FROM (
SELECT newsiddateaddedROWNUM as numero FROM news ORDER BY dateadded DESC
)

WHERE numero <=3;

NEWSID DATEADDED     NUMERO
---------- --------- ----------

25 27-APR-07          1
         3 25
-APR-07          3
         2 25
-APR-07          2

The rows I want are:

PHP Code:
 NEWSID DATEADDED     NUMERO
---------- --------- ----------

61 02-MAY-07         17
        42 01
-MAY-07         12
        43 01
-MAY-07          5

I've also tried using RANK() OVER, but can't figure out how to make it work like I need:

PHP Code:
 SQLSELECT newsiddateaddedrank() OVER (ORDER BY dateadded DESC) AAA FROM news;

NEWSID DATEADDED        AAA
---------- --------- ----------

61 02-MAY-07          1
        47 01
-MAY-07          2
        46 01
-MAY-07          3
        45 01
-MAY-07          4
        44 01
-MAY-07          5
        43 01
-MAY-07          6
        42 01
-MAY-07          7
        41 01
-MAY-07          8
        25 27
-APR-07          9
        24 26
-APR-07         10
        23 26
-APR-07         11
        22 26-APR-07         12
        21 26
-APR-07         13
         5 25
-APR-07         14
         4 25
-APR-07         15
         3 25
-APR-07         16
         2 25
-APR-07         17

17 rows selected

PHP Code:
 SQLSELECT newsid, dateaddedRANK() OVER(ORDER BY dateadded DESC) AAA
  2    FROM news
  3   WHERE aaa
<=3;

WHERE AAA <=3

*
ERROR at line 3:
ORA-00904"AAA"invalid identifier
Anyone see how to make this work?  LIMITing results seems like such a basic thing to do.

Hello, I'm quite a new here. Anyway, we have some proprietary software which requires patch 9.2.0.6 Oracle for IBM AIX 5.2. Unfortunately our support agreement finished a couple of weeks back so I can not access MetaLink, and it takes at least a month when our acc. dept. will process the payment. If someone have this patch, I would be more than grateful, you would save me.

Oracle Case Sensitivity
i Everyone...Please Bare with me through my problem description...

I've got a php/oracle web page that I've created. It's essentially a search site. What I have is a textbox where the user should be able to type in the name of a product and then search on that product. What happens though, is that if the user does not type the product name as it appears in the database, then the query will return nothing.

So if product name = "Banana" and the user types in "BANANA", nothing is returned. The user MUST type "Banana".

I managed to overcome this via:

$query3="SELECT DISTINCT PRODUCT_NAME_1, PRODUCT_NAME_2, PLATFORM, STREAM, COMPATIBLE, NOTES FROM TBLCOMPATIBILITY WHERE upper(PRODUCT_NAME_1) like upper('$product') OR upper(PRODUCT_NAME_2) like upper('$product') or upper(PLATFORM) like upper('$product;') ORDER BY PRODUCT_NAME_1 asc";

HOWEVER, here is the evil twist: Some of the product names in the table are represeneted as "Orange, Banana, Apple"....and that entire string is ONE single product name. So if the user searches "Banana", this should also appears: "Orange, Banana, Apple"...and any other product name that has "Banana" embedded into it....I managed to overcome this problem by using "LIKE" statements, like the query above....but minus the conversion to uppercase:

$query3="SELECT DISTINCT PRODUCT_NAME_1, PRODUCT_NAME_2, PLATFORM, STREAM, COMPATIBLE, NOTES FROM TBLCOMPATIBILITY WHERE PRODUCT_NAME_1 like '$product' OR PRODUCT_NAME_2 like '$product' or PLATFORM like '$product;' ORDER BY PRODUCT_NAME_1 asc";

(I know what your first suggestion will be..."why not change the product names in the db?"..well, trust me when I say, I can't do that. I don't have that power, and I MUST work with what I've got).

SO, I need to combine these two oh so great working queries into one....but I believe I can't have my cake and eat it too..that way mind works, I'm thinking that I have to choose either one way or the other way...I'm not sure how I would combine the two so that I could search all of the instances of "BANANA", even though "BANANA" is represented "Banana" in the table....

Urgh..How stressful!! Hope someone can shed some light on this. :)

Oracle Patch
Hello,

I'm trying to do an install of Oracle 9iR2, which I can install successfully, but I'm required to install the 9.2.0.8.0 patch right after the Oracle installation. I've tried to install it but it won't take. This is what turns up in the log file:

"The system cannot find the file C:\Documents" is what throws me off, and I can't figure out why it would go looking for C:\Documents...I don't have a C:\Documents folder, and it didn't tell/offer to create one. I have a Documents and Settings folder, which at first I thought the log was referrring to but just truncating the "and Settings" but it doesn't appear to be it...it really looks like it's going for a C:\Documents foler.

At first, the Oracle installation has an option to install the patch once you've installed the DB. But because I had to go through a back door to install the Oracle db, I wasn't provided with that option. Then I got ahold of the patch as a zip file. It unzipped successfully, and the log file above is from that patch.

(Oh, I'm installing this on Windows 2003 Server....)

Has anyone encountered a similar problem? And if so, were you able to overcome it?

Cheers,
RM

Oracle Portal 10.1.4 - URGENT
The question is very urgent. I will be very thankful for any reasonable comments. Does anybody work with Oracle Portal 10.1.4? I'm looking for the step-by-step instructions how to build the Oracle Portal 10.1.4 from scratch. I know there are manuals. I'm doing nothing else but reading them. Unfortunately, I don't have much time and I still need a support from someone who is more experienced then me. Thanks a lot in advance!

minimum numer of queries?
Hello,

I've got a bit of a problem that I'm not quite understanding.

I'm working in PHP with an Oracle database. I need to have 12 queries in my program because I have 12 drop down menus representing each field in my Oracle table. For some reason, I cannot have more than 5 queries. Anymore than 5 and my drop down menus remain completely blank. I can't find any information about this...I can't even imagine why I can't have my 6th, 7th, etc. number of queries.

Any idea why this is happening?

Cheers,
Mags
